Swiss Machining

Swiss machining, also known as swiss turning or swiss screw machining, is a precise way to create complex parts with high accuracy. In Swiss machining, the bar comes to the tool, not the other way around (in the Z direction). This reduces deflection and boosts stability, leading to better precision. CNC Swiss machining is especially good for detailed projects needing tight tolerances, especially for small parts.

Swiss machining moves parts in different directions, cutting them very accurately. Like 5-axis machining, Swiss machines rotate parts in 5 directions for super accurate cuts. Swiss Machines usually have one or two spindles. This helps them make custom parts fast, sometimes in just 10-15 seconds. They’re perfect for making many small parts in big production runs.

Advantages of Swiss Machining

Swiss machining offers many advantages, it is best suited for small, high-precision parts. For larger parts or components that don’t require the same level of precision, other machining methods may be more suitable. Swiss machining has benefits, but suitability varies. Choose based on factors like part complexity, material, tolerances, and production volume

Our Swiss-Type CNC lathes are perfect for machining precision parts with complex configurations and profiles in one setup incredibly fast. One of the key benefits of Swiss Style Machining is the ability to machine smaller, longer and more complex parts. In other forms of machining, the tool approaches the open turning part whereas in Swiss Machining the part is guided and supported to the tool which allows for excellent accuracy for longer, thinner components and small parts however complex.
Generally, Swiss machining is well-suited for producing long, slender parts. Typical lengths can range from around 150mm (6 inches) to 450mm (17.71 inches), although some machines might be able to handle longer parts with additional support systems. Kintec’s swiss-style lathes are designed to handle small-diameter parts efficiently. The maximum diameter can range from around 1mm (0.04 inches) to 38mm (1.49 inches)

We offer 10+ surface finish options for your CNC prototypes and full production parts. Our extensive options allow you to match finishes to your parts’ specific requirements and applications.

As machined

This finish leaves the surface directly from the CNC machine, providing a cost-effective option with visible tool marks.

Sanding & Polishing

This process smooths the surface by removing tool marks, resulting in a refined finish with varying levels of gloss and texture.

Powder coat

A durable, wear-resistant finish applied electrostatically and cured under heat, providing a uniform, protective coating in various colors.

Anodized

An electrochemical process that enhances surface durability, corrosion resistance, and appearance, available in various colors with a smooth or matte finish.

FAQs

Every successful production starts with a solid manufacturability review. Once you upload your CAD file, Willgus’s platform instantly analyzes geometry, wall thickness, overhangs, and tolerance feasibility using built-in DFM algorithms. You’ll see direct on-screen feedback within seconds—highlighting any potential risk areas. For complex or high-precision projects, our engineers conduct a manual DFM within one business day, offering clear, data-driven suggestions on design adjustments, process routes, or material choices. By reviewing manufacturability early, you eliminate rework, shorten lead time, and ensure your part can move straight from design to production with full confidence. Now upload your CAD file to receive instant feedback or request a manual “Engineer Review.”

Lead time depends on part complexity, quantity, and selected process. Willgus (CNC/3D printing) can ship within 3–5 days, while injection molding and low-volume production usually take 2–4 weeks. For a precise timeline, please submit your 3D/2D drawings, material, and quantity—our system will instantly estimate your lead time during quoting.

Willgus provides extensive finishing options for both metal and plastic parts, including anodizing, powder coating, painting, electroplating, brushing, bead blasting, and polishing. Custom colors can be achieved through pre-colored resins or post-finishing with RAL or Pantone references. We also support color consistency verification and gloss level control to ensure visual uniformity across batches. You can explore finish types and examples on our Surface Finishing and Materials pages.

At Willgus, every product goes through strict verification—from trial production and inspection testing to customer confirmation—before shipment. Our quality assurance process ensures that all parts meet the agreed specifications before delivery, minimizing the risk of nonconformities. We take pride in our precision and reliability, and every shipment is the result of a joint confirmation between our engineers and customers.
